The work that is done in a recording studio, in the case of the creation of a musical album, consists of three main stages: recording, mixing and mastering.

It is, without a doubt, the most important process. Choosing the microphone, preamplifiers and the technique to use, will drastically determine the final result.

It is the process in which all tracks recorded in the desired balance are combined, using all the dynamic processors and effects necessary to create a stereo track.
Some of these processes are:
- Equalization per track.
- Dynamic treatment per track (compressors, expanders, limiters, noise reducers, noise gates, etc.).
- Effects (reverb, delay, chorus, flanger, etc.).
- Level balance of all tracks.
- General automation of levels, panes, sends to effects, etc.
- Creation of a Master track, for later mastering.

It is the final stage of audio production, in which specific equipment, software and monitors are used to fine-tune certain parameters, so that the material complies with the technical specifications for distribution and broadcast at a commercial level. With the mastering of an album, we will achieve that all the songs have the same sonorous concept from the point of view of the distribution of level and frequencies.
Some of these processes are:
- Elimination of DC voltage.
- Fine tuning of frequencies (accurate equalization).
- Fine tuning of dynamics.
- Stereo balance.
- Correction of fades.
- Dithering (to efficiently convert a sample from 24 bits to 16 bits, which is the CD standard).
- Determine the space between tracks.
- Use of noise reduction and restoration processes, if necessary.
- Insertion of ISRC codes, for distribution rights.
- Insert CD-TEXT information (artist name, album title, track title, etc.).
- Creation of all tracks with a sampling frequency of 44.1 KHz and 16 bits deep, to create a Master Disc.
